Auditable source and signed installer for Relay Companion
Overview
From the repository's own README, as read at the audited commit. Badges and raw HTML are left out.
This is the public, auditable source for the relay-companion npm package and Relay desktop runtime.
To create a Relay link without installing anything, use the SendRelays guest HTTP API instructions. Agents with an HTTP POST tool can create text links and exchange private replies without an account or local MCP. Web search alone cannot submit the request. This package is for the installed, connected account experience.
Relay connects Claude Code, Cowork, and Codex to a shared inbox. The first-contact package has no install lifecycle and, in thin-installer releases, no dependencies. setup downloads the exact platform runtime from api.sendrelays.com, checks its signed manifest and SHA-512 digest, and only then activates it.
The revocable device credential is stored in an owner-only local file on macOS/Linux or Windows Credential Manager. ~/.relay/config.json contains non-secret account and device metadata only. Inbound Relay content is treated as untrusted correspondence and is never executed directly; any agent action remains subject to that host's approvals and sandbox.
Release commits are generated from the shipped Companion source, reviewed here, and published manually from the protected GitHub environment. The package version, runtime artifacts, dependency lock, SBOMs, source commit, and npm provenance are all bound to that release. The complete public source is davidkariuki123/relay-companion.
Start at sendrelays.com/get-started. Never install a version that Relay's Get Started page did not name exactly.
npx --yes --no-audit --no-fund relay-companion@ setup
Setup installs and opens the signed-out Relay pill, registers the local Relay MCP launcher for Claude Code and Codex, and registers the always-on task daemon with macOS launchd, Windows Task Scheduler, or owner-scop

Questions
What is the relay-companion MCP server?
Auditable source and signed installer for Relay Companion
What tools does relay-companion expose?
26 in total: 15 read-only, 8 that write, and 3 that can delete or overwrite (relay_group_delete, relay_inbox_delete, relay_message_delete). Every one is listed on this page with its risk.
Is relay-companion safe to connect to an agent?
No — not without reading the findings first. The audit graded it F (49/100) and found 3 critical or high issues in the source. Each one is listed on this page with the file and line it is on. Separately from the audit: 3 of its tools can destroy data, so scope the token you give it to what you actually need.
What credentials does relay-companion need?
It reads APPLE_KEYCHAIN, APPLE_KEYCHAIN_PROFILE, RELAY_ALLOW_DEV_RELEASE_KEY, RELAY_CODEX_OPEN_SECOND_PASS_MS, RELAY_DEVICE_TOKEN, RELAY_RELEASE_CURRENT_KEY_ID, RELAY_RELEASE_CURRENT_PUBLIC_KEY_PEM, RELAY_RELEASE_PREVIOUS_KEY_ID, RELAY_RELEASE_PREVIOUS_PUBLIC_KEY_PEM and RELAY_RELEASE_PUBLIC_KEY from the environment. Give it a token scoped to the least it needs — an agent that can be talked into calling a tool can be talked into calling it with your credentials.
How does relay-companion run?
It speaks stdio, so it runs as a local process your client starts. It is published on npm as relay-companion-runtime-lock at 0.0.0.
How current is this page?
The grade is for one exact copy of the source (d57cf66e60a7), read on 2026-10-12. The repository is watched and re-audited when it changes.
