MCP Server for Bring! Shopping
Overview
From the repository's own README, as read at the audited commit. Badges and raw HTML are left out.
This project implements a local Model Context Protocol (MCP) server in TypeScript that exposes the functionalities of the Bring! shopping list API. It enables applications like Claude Desktop to interact with your Bring! shopping lists using standardized MCP tools.
The server integrates the bring-shopping npm package for Bring! API access and uses the MCP TypeScript SDK v2 server package to provide an MCP-compliant interface.
Disclaimer: This is a personal project. I am not affiliated with Bring! Labs AG in any way. This project uses an unofficial Bring! API, which may change or be blocked at any time. This could cause the MCP server to stop functioning without prior notice.
🧩 Recommended Claude Desktop Configuration
To use this server in Claude Desktop via npx, insert the following into your claude_desktop_config.json file:
{
"mcpServers": {
"bring-mcp": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "bring-mcp@latest"],
"env": {
"BRING_EMAIL": "[email protected]",
"BRING_PASSWORD": "YOUR_BRING_PASSWORD_HERE"
}
}
}
}This is the recommended and most portable configuration. It ensures you always use the latest version published to npm without needing local installation.
💬 Using with ChatGPT via OpenAI Secure MCP Tunnel
OpenAI Secure MCP Tunnel lets ChatGPT reach this STDIO server without exposing it through a public endpoint. The tunnel client itself is provided as a downloadable binary, while bring-mcp can still be launched through npx without a local checkout or installation.
Prerequisites
- Node.js 22 or newer, including
npm/npx - ChatGPT developer-mode access

Questions
What is the Bring! MCP server?
MCP Server for Bring! Shopping
What tools does Bring! expose?
16 in total: 9 read-only, 4 that write, and 3 that can delete or overwrite (deleteMultipleItemsFromList, removeItem, removeItemImage). Every one is listed on this page with its risk.
Is Bring! safe to connect to an agent?
The audit found nothing in the source that contradicts what it says it does, and graded it B (89/100). Grade A is held back for packages that have also passed a sandboxed behavioural run, which is why a clean server reads B. Separately from the audit: 3 of its tools can destroy data, so scope the token you give it to what you actually need.
What credentials does Bring! need?
It reads BRING_PASSWORD from the environment. Give it a token scoped to the least it needs — an agent that can be talked into calling a tool can be talked into calling it with your credentials.
How current is this page?
The grade is for one exact copy of the source (22fd4c7f4afc), read on 2026-10-09. The repository is watched and re-audited when it changes.
