supabase-mcpSAFE
Supabase Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for CRUD operations and Edge Functions
Overview
From the repository's own README, as read at the audited commit. Badges and raw HTML are left out.
A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that allows Claude and other LLMs to interact with Supabase to perform CRUD operations on Postgres tables.
Features
- Database operations:
- Query data with filters
- Insert data
- Update data
- Delete data
- List tables
Prerequisites
- Node.js (v16 or newer)
- npm or yarn
- Supabase project with API keys
Installation
Option 1: Install from npm (recommended)
The package is published on npm! You can install it globally with:
npm install -g supabase-mcp
Or locally in your project:
npm install supabase-mcp
Option 2: Clone the repository
git clone https://github.com/Cappahccino/SB-MCP.git cd SB-MCP npm install npm run build
Configuration
Create a .env file with your Supabase credentials:
# Supabase credentials SUPABASE_URL=your_supabase_project_url SUPABASE_ANON_KEY=your_supabase_anon_key SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY=your_supabase_service_role_key # MCP server configuration MCP_SERVER_PORT=3000 MCP_SERVER_HOST=localhost MCP_API_KEY=your_secret_api_key
Usage with Claude
Claude requires a specific transport mode for compatibility. This package provides a dedicated binary for Claude integration:
In Claude Desktop MCP Config
"supabase": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"supabase-mcp@latest",
"supabase-mcp-claude"
],
"env": {
"SUPABASE_URL": "your_supabase_project_url",
"SUPABASE_ANON_KEY": "your_supabase_anon_key",
"SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY": "your_service_role_key",
"MCP_API_KEY": "your_secret_api_key"
}
}Make sure you set the required environment variables in the configuration. Claude will use the stdio transport for communication.
Manual Testing with Claude Binary
For testing outside of Claude, you can run:
npm run start:claude
Or if installed globally:
supabase-mcp-claude

Questions
What is the supabase-mcp MCP server?
Supabase Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for CRUD operations and Edge Functions
What tools does supabase-mcp expose?
6 in total: 6 read-only, 0 that write, and 0 that can delete or overwrite. Every one is listed on this page with its risk.
Is supabase-mcp safe to connect to an agent?
The audit found nothing in the source that contradicts what it says it does, and graded it B (89/100). Grade A is held back for packages that have also passed a sandboxed behavioural run, which is why a clean server reads B.
What credentials does supabase-mcp need?
It reads MCP_API_KEY, SUPABASE_ANON_KEY and SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY from the environment. Give it a token scoped to the least it needs — an agent that can be talked into calling a tool can be talked into calling it with your credentials.
How does supabase-mcp run?
It speaks stdio, so it runs as a local process your client starts. It is published on npm as supabase-mcp at 1.5.0.
How current is this page?
The grade is for one exact copy of the source (2d81800be35a), read on 2026-10-12. The repository is watched and re-audited when it changes.
